Business Plus Rule Gulf Air Six-A-Side Cricket Tilt

RIYADH, 7 May 2004 — Gulf Air Business Plus topped the Six-a-Side Gulf Air Cricket Championship here recently. The day-long fun event was capped by a prize distribution ceremony in which Hamza Mohammad Sharif, Gulf Air KSA general manager, presented the prizes including a return air ticket that was raffled off.

Hamza said the aim of the tournament was to provide opportunities for people in the travel trade to display their skills and participate in healthy activities.

Encouraged by the success of the tourney, Hamza said it would continue as a bigger event in the future and bring travel agents and Gulf Air closer.

Eight teams were drawn from an original 20 which had entered for the one-day tournament played at Sulay ground.

The eventual winner, GA Business Plus, was represented by Al Zouman Travels. The other teams entered and named on GF brands were Gulf Air, Gulf Traveler, represented by Kanoo, Gulf Air Holidays, Gulf Air Cargo, Sky Nanny, Chef on Board and Gulf Air Frequent Flyer.

Bluestar, KFCC in Brilliant Start: Unity Rajhi Summer Cup meanwhile in Dammam, Bluestar and KFCC posted fluent victories over Fouad Travels and Classic Friends respectively at the start of the Unity Al Rajhi Int'l Clinic Summer Cup 2004, according to coordinator Thaju Ayyaril.

Two half centuries by Aamir (51) and Anwar (52) and 42 by Khaled powered Bluestar to a massive total of 209 for 8 in 16 overs against Fouad Travels who were bowled out for just 58 runs.

The crowd was treated to an exciting all-round performance by Ishaq in the match between KFCC and Classic Friends. He scored 41 off 20 balls hitting huge sixes to take KCC to 137 for 8 and then claimed 6 wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs to lift KFCC to victory.

AKTE claimed a four-wicket win over Al Gosaibi, Marhoon won by eight wickets over Kannoor Brothers and Unity Al Rajhi downed Friends XI by 10 runs in the other opening-day matches. Al Gosaibi won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 91 for eight in 16 overs. The match developed into a nail-biter with AKTE winning in the last over.
