JEDDAH, 21 May 2004 — The LG Table Tennis tournament’s Doubles rounds, which began last Friday, will continue with round 3, quarterfinals, semifinals and final at Alhamra Sofitel Hotel today.

In all 128 players contested the Doubles event. Some of the matches played in the initial rounds were exciting.

In a thrilling encounter, Yesudas and T. Samuel of Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance (Team A) defeated Sajid Hussein and Asif Khan of Overseas Transport Company (Team A).

In another thrilling match, Majeed and Asif of SGB Baroom (Team A) trounced Saad and Zamil of Pakistan International School-PIS (Team B) 3-2. The PIS pair found their SGB Baroom counterparts too tough to tackle in key points.

Barmem brothers — Hussein and Obaid of Attar Travel (Team B) beat Abdul Wahab and Mohamed Fahmi of Riyadh House Est.-RHE (Team A) 3-2. The Barmem brothers excelled in coordination, which was the hallmark of their victory.

In another thriller, Jing Dizon and Glenn of Jeddah Graphic Center-JGC (Team A) defeated Ahmed and Saleem of SGB Baroom (Team B) 3-2. Veteran Jing Dizon of JGC exhibited excellent backstrokes and his experience and coordination with Glenn helped the pair to win the match. In other matches, Shekhawat and Vikas of Al-Suhaimi Pump Systems (Team A) defeated Carlos and Ebrahim Eid of Safa Water Co. (Team B) by 3-2, while Irfan Siddiqui and Virgillo of Al-Rumaih Compound (Team A) beat Jamil and Arif of Overseas Transport Co. (Team B).

Some of the teams who performed well were Najeem Saleh and Haytham Ateyeb of Thamer International School, Bennet William of New Jeddah Clinic, and Raees Ahmed and Salahuddin of Bajaba Electronics who defeated Yousri Mohamed and Hazim Fouad of RHE (Team B) without conceding a game.

The event concludes with the prize distribution ceremony next Friday.
