JEDDAH, 21 May 2004 — IDB upset Saudia Milk by 20 runs whereas SGB Baroom and Mahmood Saeed recorded huge wins over SGB Green and UMA by 9 and 8 wickets respectively in the 8th week of the Kanoo League sponsored by Kanoo Group of Companies and organized by JCL. Elsewhere Sadafco beat Kanoo by 3 wickets.
IDB amassed 286 for 7 in 35 overs with opener Khawar leading the way with an elegant 58 (10x4, 1x6) runs of 31 balls and along with fellow opener Rashid helped IDB to 76 for 1 in 8 overs. Rashid scored 47 runs of 40 balls. Later Javed with a quick 35 runs of 27 balls, Abid (25), and Ataurahman (25) accelerated further as Wasim followed up with a polished 60 in an impressive 286 for 7. Imran and Arif picked up 3 and 2 wickets apiece.
In reply, Saudia Milk lost 3 quick wickets and were reduced to 41 for 3. But Arif (34), Javed (21) and Imran (25) revived their hopes prior to another collapse to 119 for 6. Shakir Khan then paced his innings scoring a brilliant unbeaten 92 (8x4, 2x6) but the asking rate crept up and the Milkmen fell short by 20 runs, totaling 266. Ataurahman and Khawar picked up 2 wickets each.
Sadafco reached the target of 228 set by Kanoo for the loss of 7 wickets. Ilyas blazed his way with a quick 32 of 28 balls. Later Zafar (32), Haroon (24 n.o.) and Pervaiz Khan, who stole the show with a patient 65, that enabled Sadafco win. Zahid picked up 3 for 42. Earlier Kanoo were restricted to 227. Skipper Naeem Amin hit 62 (6x4) and there were useful contributions from Wasif (27), Nadeem (26), Azam (29) and Zahid (35). Zahid (4 for 29) and Zafar (2 for 22) stood out.
Mahmood Saeed opener Kashif scored a brilliant unbeaten 141 runs to enable Mahmood Saeed hand a 8-wicket defeat to UMA. Kashif and fellow opener Irfan put on 129 runs in 16 overs.
Irfan scored 47 runs of 45 balls and later Asgar scored 34 runs but it was Kashif all the way hitting 17 fours. Earlier UMA tallied 245 with Saeed (35), Khalid (36) giving them a good start of 50. But UMA collapsed to 155 for 8 till Umar (44) and Nadeem (26) lifted them 245. Amjad picked up 5 for 47 and Wajahat had 3 for 63.
SGB Baroom scored 247 for One and thumped SGB Green by nine wickets. Niaz and fellow opener Shoaib (63) put on 138 runs in 16 overs. Manjeet hit an unbeaten 59 runs as Niaz scored his third century in 2004, hitting an undefeated 103 (10x4). Earlier SGB Green were restricted to 241 for 7 in 35 overs.
Shoaib cracked 83 runs and was supported by Shahbaz (22), Hasnat (50), Amer (28) and Hasan (34 n.o). Ali Qasim and Tariq picked up 2 wickets each.
