JEDDAH, 21 May 2004 — Lahore Cricket Club (LCC) registered a four-wicket win over Tanzim Cricket Club (TCC) in the JF-Mitsubishi Elevators Cup final.
After winning the toss, TCC batted and made 150 for 7 wickets in 15 overs. Rafeeq Noor topscored with 34 runs in 17 balls and Imran made 31 in 17 balls and Abbas 28 not out in just 11 balls. LCC's Raja Ejaz took 2 wickets for 30 runs. Wajid, Hafeez Ifthikar and Niyaz Khan claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, LCC openers Raja Ejaz and Nasir started fiercely by scoring 44 runs in just 3 overs. But Dil Nawaz and Imran stopped the rampage by claiming both openers wickets and triggering a middle order collapse.
But Kaiser and Wajed steadied the innings and saw their team through with still 2 overs to play and 4 wickets in hand.
Raja Ejaz topscored with 34 (4x6) in just 11 balls. Wajed scored 30 runs in just 11 balls (3x6) and Kaiser 15 in 5 balls (2x6). Dil Nawaz and Shameer got 2 wickets each and Abbas got 1 wicket. The man of the match honor went to LCC's Raja Ejaz.
Sixteen teams participated in this gala event. They were Katipalla Youth Council, TCC, LCC, Pak Eleven, MSCC, Safar, Bankal, Eagle Cricketers, Deera Cricketers, Ceylon C.C., Sunrise, Tamimi, SSCL, Madeena Cricketers, Mitsubishi Elevator Cricket Team and Mian Eleven.
In the semifinal matches, TCC beat MSCC by 49 runs and LCC beat Pak Eleven by 44 runs.
After the final match the prize distribution ceremony was held at the ground. Besides winner's and runners-up cups, there were man-of-the-match awards for all the matches played.
Both best bowler of the tournament and the man-of-the series award went to Dil Nawaz of TCC and the best batsman of the tournament award went to LCC's Raja Ejaz. The best-uniformed team award went to Mitsubishi Elevator Cricket Team
The chief guest was Sheikh Nazeer Hussain, regional manager of Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd., from the division of Mitsubishi Elevators and Escalators who were the main sponsors. The other guests were Senthil Kumar, regional manger of Air-India, Mustafa Sami, GSK-Panadaol who were the co-sponsors.
Also presents were Althaf of Kanoo Travels, Basheer from Kuwait, ex-president of Jamiyyatul Falah, Mushtaq Ahmed and Shahnsha of Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd.
Other cosponsor, Al-Smari Clinic provided ambulance service during final match.
Sheikh Nazeer Hussain praised Jamiyyatul Falah for its activities. Senthil Kumar and Mushtaq Ahmed also spoke on the event. Parvez Ali welcomed the guests and Mohammed Nawaz Gurpur gave a vote of thanks.
