JEDDAH, 28 May 2004 — Bajaba Electronics pair Mansoor Abdul Rehman and Syed Shah Alam won the 3rd LG Table Tennis tournament's Doubles Championship trophy last Friday, giving Bajaba a grand double. It won the tournament's Singles title earlier.
In the Doubles final at Alhamra Sofitel Hotel, the pair defeated Azeemuddin Hamid and Syed Attaullah of Arabian Food Supplies Co. (AFS) 3-0 in best of five games.
Saudi player Mansoor and veteran Shah Alam played extremely well throughout the day before qualifying for the final. Mansoor's performance was outstanding in the final as he played with great enthusiasm and real professional spirit. Alam gave adequate support to him.
Suleman Al-Shahry of Bajaba had won the Singles Championship on May 7.
Bajaba has done well in all three LG TT Tournaments held so far under the captaincy of Syed Raees Ahmed, a TT veteran. Raees has introduced several talented players, and they include Mansoor Abdul Rehman, Suleman Al-Shahry and Salahuddin.
A total of 33 matches were played on the final day, which started with an exciting match between Sarawat Superstores and Mushrifa Clinic. Shafiq Ahmed and Munawar Baig of Sarawat finally won 3-2, as Masood brothers - Samir and Amir fell to the experienced pair.
Jing Dizon and Glenn of Jeddah Graphic Center defeated Faheemuddin and Ayman Yousuf 3-2. Faheemuddin and Ayman played some tremendous backstrokes and forehand shots and with the match tied 2-2, it was anyone's game. But Dizon and Glenn found the extra bit to win.
In another exciting match, D.S. Shekhawat and Vikas Arora of Al-Sukhaimi Pump Systems had a narrow (3-2) win over Benner Williams and Shahid Bari of Orient Transport Co.
In the first quarterfinal, Azeemuddin Hamid and Syed Attaullah of AFS had a 3-0 cakewalk over Shafiq Ahmed and Munawar Baig of Sarawat. In the second quarterfinal, Yaseen Khot and Ahmed Mahmoud of Attar Travel defeated Faheem Khan and Balbir of Juffali Printing Systems 3-0.
In the third quarterfinal, Abdul Rehman and Uzair Khan of Alhamrani Fuchs Petroleum staged a fine rally to beat Raees Ahmed and Salahuddin of Bajaba 3-2. Raees and Salahuddin won first two games. And then
Mansoor and Shah Alam beat Mohammed Atif and Farid Yousuf of Tokio Marine in the fourth quarterfinal.
Azeemuddin and Attaullah of AFS won against Yaseen and Ahmed of Attar Travel 3-2 in the first semifinal, while Mansoor and Shah Alam defeated Abdul Rehman and Uzair Khan 3-1.
A prize distribution ceremony will be held today. Players and executives of LG Electronics and its local distributors United Yousef M. Naghi Co. and H.G. Ibrahim Shaker Co. will be among those present.
