RIYADH, 28 May 2004 — D'Young & Veterans put a damper on the "A" Bowlers' excitement from their run of successes with an emphatic 28-12 victory in their 11th week showdown in the Pizza Inn Thursday Night Bowling League Second Conference at the Riyadh Bowling Club lanes here.
Against D'Young & Veterans the "A" Bowlers turned soft as spaghetti in a big comedown from their perfect 29-point performance the previous week.
D'Young & Veterans won hands down as Team of the Week. They shot total pinfalls of 4,142 as against "A" Bowlers's 3,702. Sammy San Juan clinched the Bowler of the Week honors and powered Carry Fast to an equally decisive 24-12 victory over Keglers Manila on total pinfalls of 3,992 and 3,672.
Dugong Bughaw topped The Bowlmates 24-18 (4,024-3,889), RBC Patriots bested X-tremes 20-16 (3,858-3,751) and Kirotzky whipped Dink Fair "Sweater" in other matches in the five-man team league event sponsored by United Food Company (Pizza Inn) and Al Safi Danone.
In going one point shy of the possible maximum score of 29, D'Young & Veterans missed just one point for score of 1,000 and above as they carded games of 1,006, 1,087, 995 and 1,054.
Blending well as a team, D'Young & Veterans drew the best out of the four they called for duty. At the helm was Benny Racal who drilled 854. Ely Fanugao and August Yema put in a pair of 831s, while Ronald Bautista added 823. San Juan shot the high series of 855 on games of 232, 170, 172, 181 and 100 handicap. Along with Boy Bartolome at 824 he was the only player to complete four games at Carry Fast that employed a seven-man rotation.
Carry Fast team captain Henry Acosta made 601, Ryan Labiaga contributed 591, Robert Arcena tallied 535, Ramon Cruz had 397 and Lino San Juan 189.
As the only other team to breach the 4,000-points mark, Dugong Bughaw got a big lift from Benjie Macatuno with 840 and Ed Maduro with 830. Frank Ranera with 757, Mudz Dais with 656, Reny Dimapilis with 568 and Freddie Santiago with 373 were the others on target. Among the week's notable scorers were X-tremes' William Ybay with 836, Kirotzky's Nestor Tercio with 826, Bowlmates' James Salva and Mikee Alcaraz with 818 and 808 respectively and A's Ernie Quiambao with 801.
