RIYADH, 28 May 2004 — The Power Horse Energy Drink Darters led by team captain Nerio Brosas beat top favorite First Quadrant II in the step-ladder semifinals of the 20th EDSA Inter-Commercial Dart Team Tournament being held at the Basement Level of Manila Plaza Commercial Center in Batha, Riyadh.
The Energy Drink Kings, without three of their key players Mario Guanzon, Resty Dela Pe?a and Reymund Arevalo, had little hope against a team composed of all highly rated veteran Class "A" players including last season's Most Valuable Player Banny Alagar and all-time champion Edwin Canales.
Team Captain Nerio Brosas broke the ice by winning against the Downliners' Abet Apon but soon, the score was 6-1 in favor of the Downliners courtesy of their successive wins from Lito Ynguito and Ronald Cawagas. Power Horse's Team Manager Shehab Nemaire then arrived to boost their team's morale. This livened up the Energy Drink Kings who scored three consecutive wins. The Singles leg ended with 6-4 score for Downliners.
The Energy Drink Kings' Philip Agliam and Nelson Sarte teamed up for an upset win against the pair of Banny Alagar and Abet Apon. The Downliners' duo of Sam Macabalang and Ronald Cawagas then retaliated with a win against Ruben Tamayo and Nelson Callos. First Quadrant II answered with a victory from Edwin Canales and Art Gotengco over Nerio Brosas and Eding Galera but the pair of Alex "The Bulldozer" Suyo and this season's MVP Fernando "FPJ" Castro forced the decision match beating Lito Ynguito and Dominic Sanchez. Again Dowliners held a 10-8 edge after the Doubles.
The Energy Drink Darters' quartet of Philip Agliam, Nelson Sarte, Alex Suyo and Fernando Castro then gave it their all in the Team of Four competition. FPJ Castro proved that his winning the MVP title was no fluke when he easily did a high-72 outshot to claim the slim 11-10 victory over their stunned rivals.
Next Friday will be the championship match between Power Horse Energy Drink Darters and First Quadrant I.
