JEDDAH, 6 June 2004 — Efforts are under way to develop basketball in the Makkah region as there are plans to establish 200 basketball courts in Jeddah, Makkah and Taif, the Saudi Press Agency said. It said the project figured high at a meeting of the Social Development Committee, chaired by Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed, here yesterday. Prince Talal ibn Badr, chairman of the Arab and Saudi basketball federations, attended the meeting which focused on the needs of youth. The meeting also reviewed the summer sports, cultural and social programs for the three cities.
