RIYADH, 9 June 2004 — A racing car with ABB motors will attempt to break the world land speed record for an electrical vehicle today in southern Tunisia.
The 32-foot (10-meter ) long, mustard-yellow ABB e=motion car will try to break the current world electric land speed record of 394 kmph. The ABB car is expected to hit 483 kmph.
The car is the brainchild of Britons Colin Fallows and Mark Newby.
The system delivered spectacular acceleration during a first test in the United Kingdom last year.
“We are confident of being able to break the record,” said the Marketing and Communications Manager of the Riyadh office of the ABB Abdulrahman M Abdulkarim
ABB e=motion easily reached 237 kmph in just 914 meters — the longest distance available to the team in the United Kingdom. That’s faster in just over half a mile than the current 224 kmph UK electric record holder could achieve with a two-mile run-up.
“So expectations for a new world record in Tunisia are high,” said Abdulkarim.
