JEDDAH, 22 June 2004 — Carl Jife Abat gained a spot in the finals of the 10 years and under and stunned favorite Robel Abarra in a hard fought 6-4 victory. Abat surprised Abarra and bolted to a 2-0 lead with an early break and a held serve. Abarra hit back in the third game with a break serve to move 1-2. However Abat continued with his good form and did not surrender his lead and won 6-4. Meanwhile, Allan Ariesgado playing with confidence as the match progressed conceded just two games in a 6-2 drubbing of Joseph Sabado. Ariesgado will now meet Abat in the finals in the 10 years and under.
In the 12 years and under, Andre Olegario played the best tennis of his career and scored a surprise win over the more experienced Raymond Fenton. Andre powered his way and put his mark on the ground with a solid start to lead 3-1. Andre extended his winning ways to move ahead 7-4, and threatened to close the match. Unperturbed, Fenton, scrambled to stay on track to force a deciding tiebreaker.
In the tiebreak, the duo traded baseline rallies and Fenton succumbed to pressure as Andre gained a spot in the semifinals to win 8-7 (8-6). With the hard earned victory, Andre booked a date with Tarek Attar who humbled Sherif Mostafa 8-4. At the other half of the draw, Raghav Ramabadran demolished Loloah Chamoun 8-0, and stayed on course with Ziad Bahgat who earlier came down from a 1-3 deficit and escaped with a hard fought 8-6 victory over Adolf Olegario
In the 14 years and under, the Fenton brothers, Daniel and Raymond set up a date in the semifinals, as Daniel downed Raghav Ramabadran 8-4, while Raymond put away his defeat in the 12 years and under and regained his form to crash Adolf Olegario, 8-2.
In the other match, Mark Darouni established control and eased out Kevin Kruger 8-3, while Kristian Naparan showed immense maturity and dumped Nasri Majdalani in the same score 8-3.
In the intermediate doubles, 14 years and under, the Fenton brothers reigned supreme and remained undefeated, as the pair were too hot to handle and stormed into the finals over Mark Darouni and Andre Ciganik. The nine years old Ciganik struggled with his serve with double faults and could not get his rhythm on track and lost 3-8.
