DAMASCUS, 17 September 2004 — Abdullah Al-Dousari won a rally for the second time this year when he was adjudged winner of the recent fourth Round of Toyota Cup at the Rally of Syria 2004, which is part of the Middle Rally Championship.
Toyota Rally Team 4 RAV Saudi Arabia, sponsored by Abdul Latif Jameel Company and supported by Power Horse and Denso, finished the competition, which reached its peak when it became a straight contest between Al-Dousari and Sultan Hamdi after the withdrawal of Majed Al-Gamdi and Prince Khaled ibn Sultan Al Abdullah. “The rally was very tough from the beginning,” Al-Ghamdi said. “Although the first rounds were very difficult, I passed it with my experience and with the help of my co-driver. But there were some difficulties that prevented me to complete the rally,” Al- Gamdi said after he retired. His retirement followed that of Prince Khaled. The contest between Al-Dousari and Hamdi was so tense that they kept the spectators guessing with their changing leads. However, Al-Dousari managed to win the rally with 3.27.16 hours. Hamdi ranked second with 3.31.29 h.
The first part of the event had seven rounds and the second part had six 6 with 37 teams participating.
“I am sorry that Prince Khaled and Al-Gamdi are out. The competition was very exciting and the rally was very hard,” Al-Dousari said, adding that although he participating in it for the first time he managed to deal with its tracks and finished first. Now, I’ll do my best to win the Dubai rally.” Hamdi expressed his happiness for ranking first in the championship before the final round. “The championship came to me on a platter and I saw it as a dream to win,”
Final Results: Sultan Hamdi 26 points, Prince Khaled ibn Sultan Al-Abdullah 22 points, Abdullah Al Dousari 20 points, Majed Al-Ghamdi 10 points.
