JEDDAH, 19 October 2004 — Soccer heavyweights Al-Shabab and Al-Ittifaq drew goalless in the King Fahd Cup Soccer Tournament in a tight match on Sunday.
Both the teams showed their offensive and defensive skills at the Riyadh’s Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium, and despite some lively exchanges they could not score.
Both the teams secured a point each and the match did not affect the standings with Shabab remaining on top with 17 points while Ittifaq staying on 11th place with 6 points.
In another development, local favorites Al-Ittihad will have the home ground advantage when they face South Korean rivals Chonbuk Motors in the AFC Champions League match today.
The match will be played at the city’s Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium.
Ittihad coach Evitch, while preparing for this crucial tie, has reactivated injured defender Reda Tukar and midfielder Muhammad Nur.
“My players are in shape and I believe that their experience of playing at some of the biggest grounds will help them and we hope to reignite our campaign with a win,” said Evitch.
“It has all the ingredients to be a great match and my boys will leave no stone unturned to cash in on the advantage of home ground,” Evitch added.
