JEDDAH, 24 December 2004 — Toyota Rally Team Saudi Arabia’s Sultan Hamdi made a triumphant comeback in the sport of rallying when he won in the 5th round of Middle East Championship Rally in Dubai recently.

Returning to the ME rally scene after a two-year gap, Hamdi outperformed his teammates on the Toyota Rally Saudi Arabia and was the only one left standing after Prince Khalid ibn Sultan and Majed Al-Ghamdi bowed out one after the other. A fourth driver on the team, Abdullah Dosari, also did not finish.

A great rally driver, Prince Khalid ranked second but then retired during the eighth special stage, while Al Ghamdi quit when his car broke down during the course of the rally.

With Hamdi’s victory, the Toyota Rally Team Saudi Arabia sponsored by Abdul Lateef Jameel Group, Power Horse energy drink and Denso, fittingly ended their participation in the ME Championship Rally having committed to join the karting races.

“At last I won after so many sacrifices. I thank God for giving me the opportunity and honor as to be the last winner of Toyota Cup Middle East Championship,” said an emotional Hamdi who joined the Dubai rally with Mohanad Khashoggi as co-driver.
