JEDDAH, 17 January 2005 — Al-Shabab sustained their unbeaten run since the King Fahd Cup soccer tournament resumed late last month scoring a 3-1 victory over Al-Riyadh in Riyadh last night.
It was the third straight time Shabab won in decisive fashion having also beaten Al-Ohud 3-1 and Al-Ansar 6-3 in their last two outings.
Displaying attacking football, Shabab recovered from one goal down early in the game to collect full three points for a leading total of 30 points in 14 matches.
Goldin Athram tallied two goals and Ahmed Atif had one for Shabab who created many chances with their offense-minded strategy in the game.
Nashat Akram nearly gave Shabab an early lead when his shot just went over the cross bar in the 7th minute.
Riyadh were mainly focusing at midfield. In the 23rd minute Badar Al Maymany made a nice pass inside the box to Faisal Abdul Aziz who duly scored what turned out to be the first and only goal for Riyadh in the 37th minute. Akram had another opportunity but his shot was wide off the mark. In the 42nd minute Atif restored parity for Shabab when he went past the Riyadh defenders and slammed in a goal the ball sinking to the left side of the net. The second half was all-Shabab. With just five minutes gone in the period, Mohammed Monga gave a one-two pass to Athram for Shabab’s second goal for Shabab. In the 65th minute a mistake from the Riyadh defense enabled Athram to score his team’s third goal.
Manga could have made another one for Shabab but his attempt from inside the box sailed over the net in the 69th minute.
