JEDDAH, 16 September 2005 — Jeddah Cricket League (JCL) held a meeting of their club members at Lasani Restaurant for registration of their teams for the forthcoming season 2005-06. The new season marks 30 successful years of organizing cricket in the Kingdom for the different age groups, divisions, intercity matches, festival and social matches among the different communities.
The JCL’s aims have been to promote a healthy atmosphere in order to propagate harmony among different nationalities. A large gathering had attended and shown keen interest to participate for the new season after they completed the Summer Knockout Tournament to play and enjoy the matches before Ramadan.
Shahid Amin, president of the organization since its inception, addressed the gathering and thanked all the individuals, clubs, volunteers, sponsors, well-wishers and his executive committee members.
He particularly thanked and appreciated the press committee for their untiring efforts and coordination with the local media and the team management.
In his speech the president said that except for the two months due to the shifting of the new grounds, cricket has been organized without interrupting since last three decades which is a record, and the present new JCL Complex at Obhur, north Jeddah, is one of the largest cricket playing complex in the world which has the facilities not only for playing cricket but also for changing rooms, practice pitches, large car parking and recreation for the families and children to enjoy the beautiful view of the beach.
He said entries are open for teams to register and they could contact any of the executive committee members or the finance committee members Akhtar Hussain and Ahsan Rafeh for all the three different divisions i.e. Premier League, Division-I and Division-II.
Meanwhile Majeed Ul Hassan, General Secretary Admin, Afsar Fahim, General Secretary Tech. & Sayeed Ul Hassan, the tournament coordinator, briefed the club representatives, different groups and the first week draws along with the rules and regulations that the team have to maintain.
Sadafco will take Kanoo Travels in the Premier League while for the other divisions, Red Sea will play against Juffali Michelin, Saudia Majestique will play against GCI, and Hyderabad Green will clash with IDB while the Fighting Tigers of Reel & Rom will reinforce their efforts against Attieh Steel Group Cricketers in the opening matches on Sept. 16.
Shahid Amin requested the executive committee members and volunteers to exert their services to make the event a success. He also asked them exert all their efforts to make the Six-A-Side matches of Indian School Boys under-15, 19 and the other festival match between JCL Excom. XI vs. CGI-XI, that will be played on Thursday Sept. 22 at JCL Complex.
It is part of India Festival Jeddah 2005 and this event conducted by the Consulate General of India, Jeddah, and Jeddah Cricket League with the event being managed by Afsar Fahim and other JCL Excom & prominent Indian members.
