JEDDAH, 27 September 2005 — The Saudi soccer league starts today with the opening match between Al-Hilal of Riyadh and Abha of Abha at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
Saudi premier league action continues tomorrow with another match pitting Al-Shabab of Riyadh and Al-Hazm of Al-Rass also in Riyadh. Hilal, the defending champions, open defense of their title against a league newcomer. Hilal are expected to have smooth sailing against the young untested team. In addition to Abha, Al-Hazm are the other team promoted to premier league, while Al-Riyadh from Riyadh and Ohod from Madinah were relegated to the second league.
