NEW YORK, 6 November 2005 — Tim Duncan poured in 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Tony Parker chipped in with 18 points and eight assists as the San Antonio Spurs romped to a 102-76 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday at the SBC Center.
Duncan was 10-of-17 from the field and had 15 of his 21 points in the second half while Bruce Bowden chipped in with 12 points, going 3-for-3 on three pointers, as the NBA champion Spurs improved to 2-0.
LeBron James had 20 points for the Cavaliers but was ineffective in the second half, scoring just eight.
Drew Gooden had 14 points and eight rebounds and Zydrunas Ilgauskas added nine points and nine boards for Cleveland who slipped to 1-1.
The Cavaliers led 28-25 at the end of the opening quarter and trailed 50-45 at the intermission before the Spurs broke open the close contest with an 18-7 run to start the third.
In New York, Gilbert Arenas scored 27 points and Antawn Jamison added 20 as the Washington Wizards eased past the Knicks 86-75, spoiling Larry Brown’s first home game as coach. Brown, a native New Yorker who jumped from the Detroit Pistons to the Knicks in the off-season, received a rousing ovation from the Madison Square Garden crowd.
In Denver, Marcus Camby hit a game-high 23 points and hauled in 17 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets welcomed coach George Karl back to the bench with a crushing 107-68 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Voshon Lenard flirted with a triple-double, scoring 17 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out eight assists, while Carmelo Anthony contributed 14 points to the Nuggets’ cause. Darius Miles led Portland with 13 points, and Zach Randolph added 12.
In Toronto, Richard Jefferson poured in 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the New Jersey Nets to a 102-92 win over the Raptors.
Toronto fans lustily booed former Raptor Vince Carter each time he touched the ball but the six-time all-star was unfazed, contributing 20 points to the New Jersey cause.
In Philadelphia, Emeka Okafor nailed 24 points and scooped 11 rebounds to guide the Charlotte Hornets past the winless 76ers 110-93. Allen Iverson had a game-high 29 in a losing effort for the 76ers while Chris Webber added 20 points.
In Boston, Richard Hamilton nailed the game-winning jumper at the buzzer, giving the Detroit Pistons an 82-81 win.
Hamilton finished the night with 26 points while Chauncey Billups chipped in with 16 and eight assists for the Pistons, who improved to 2-0 under new coach Flip Saunders.
In Orlando, Eddie Jones had 25 points and Pau Gasol added 22 as the Memphis Grizzlies downed the Magic 94-85.
In Oakland, Mehmet Okur dropped 23 points and Matt Harping added 15 as the Utah Jazz dropped the Golden State Warriors 91-85.
In Los Angeles, Cuttino Mobley scored 19 points and James Singleton had 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Clippers trimmed the Atlanta Hawks 92-77.
In Seattle, Ray Allen had a game 32 points and eight rebounds guiding the Seattle SuperSonics to a 107-102 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
