AREVA T&D has won a major contract worth 140 million euros in the Middle East. The new contract is with Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) for the expansion of its electricity transmission network in Doha. KAHRAMAA has seen demand for electricity soar in the Qatari capital following the rapid and substantial development of high-rise buildings in its West Bay district. This improvement in electrical infrastructure will allow the national utility to fully satisfy residents’ current needs and anticipate future growth in demand. The contract represents the third major project in the Middle East to be awarded to AREVA T&D this month. On Nov. 17, the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority awarded two large-scale grid interconnection projects worth a total of 194 million euros to AREVA T&D.
