MADINAH, 8 December 2005 — The Prince Faisal ibn Fahd basketball tournament got off to a fine start here last night, with Al-Ittihad beginning their campaign with a win against Al-Nasr.
This is first time in the history of competition that the tournament is being held here.
Ten teams have been clubbed into two groups — A & B — Group A comprises Al-Ittihad, Al-Ohod, Al-Qadisiya, Al-Nasr and Al-Wehda. Group B consists of Al-Ahli, Al-Ansar, Al-Fateh, Al-Hilal and Al-Khaleej.
Ohod tops all teams with 13 titles followed by Ittihad (9 times) while Hilal and Nasr have once each.
In a Group A match, Ittihad found no difficulty as they rolled to a 72-41 win over Nasr. Ittihad continued their domination of Nasr in a completely one-sided affair. In another match of the same group, Ohod thumped Qadisiya 80-70. In another match, Al-Ahli got the upper hand as they defeated Hilal 62-49.
In today’s matches, two matches will take place, Al-Wehda will face Qadisiya in Group A while Al-Ansar play against Al-Fateh in Group B.
