RIYADH, 13 December 2005 — Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, president of the Saudi Youth Welfare Presidency, ordered the national football team committee to hold a meeting today to review preparation plans for the national team. Prince Sultan will also chair a meeting tomorrow to discuss the plan. He will also review the report submitted by the national team coach Gabriel Calderon and manager of the Saudi team Fahd Al-Musaibih on the team’s poor result in the Third West Asian Games held in Doha.

Iordanescu Lauded

JEDDAH, 13 December 2005 — The tactics applied by Al-Ittihad’s Romanian coach Anghel Iordanescu in the second half against African champions Al Ahly of Egypt in the World Club Championships in Tokyo on Sunday received a lot of praise from the coaches of the other clubs. Iordanescu’s tactics paid off when Ahly were forced to play defensive by going on the attack. Following the guidelines set by their coach Ittihad kept the ball in Ahly’s half for the majority of the half and won with an opportunistic strike.

Expansion of Hospital

JEDDAH, 13 December 2005 — Prince Sultan ibn Fahd inaugurated the new extension of Prince Faisal Hospital, which specializes in sports injuries. The three-story hospital is provided with the latest medical equipment including an X-ray department, ultrasound unit, operation theater and intensive care unit (ICU). The 80-bed hospital is for both male and female athletes.

Five Saudi Riders Qualify

RIYADH, 13 December 2005 — Five Saudi riders have qualified for the Show Jumping World Cup to be held in Germany next year. The riders include Khalid Eid, Prince Abdullah ibn Miteb, Ramzi Dahami, Kamal Bahamdan and Faisal Shaalan. The riders will take part in team and singles cup competition.

Al-Dossari Probed

JEDDAH, 13 December 2005 — Abdulmohsen Al-Dossari of Al-Shabab club faces punishment for misbehaving in a match against Al-Nasr. He is said to have thrown his shirt to the ground in anger after being replaced by the coach. A Shabab official said, “If this true the club will punish him.”
