NEW YORK, 15 December 2005 — Patrik Stefan’s second goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining lifted the Atlanta Thrashers to a 7-6 home win over the Detroit Red Wings in National Hockey League play on Tuesday.

The Thrashers blew a 6-2 lead in the third period but rebounded to beat the Red Wings for the first time in franchise history.

Stefan scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway as the Thrashers ended Detroit’s three-game winning streak and all-time seven-game unbeaten streak against Atlanta.

Atlanta led 2-1 after one period and after the Wings tied the game early in the second, scored four goals less than five minutes apart to take a 6-2 lead before the Wings found their rhythm in the third, thanks largely to their power play.

Slava Kozlov had a goal and two assists for the Thrashers, while J.P. Vigier and Bobby Holik both added a goal and an assist. Marian Hossa and Ronald Petrovicky scored the other Thrashers goals, as Atlanta went 3-for-7 on the power play and Detroit went 4-for-8.

In Raleigh, Craig Adams scored twice and had one assist as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3.

In Columbus, Jeff Carter scored the game winning goal as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Blue Jackets 3-1.

In Uniondale, Marc Chouinard scored the game winning goal at 19:57 of the 2nd as the Minnesota Wild beat the N.Y. Islanders 4-3.

In New York, Matt Cooke scored the game-winning goal at 15:29 of the third period as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Rangers 3-2.

Todd Bertuzzi and Daniel Sedin scored the other goals for the Canucks. Alex Auld made 34 saves on the same day the Canucks learned they would be without starting goalie Dan Cloutier for the rest of the season.

In Sunrise, Nathan Horton scored three goals as the Florida Panthers beat the Nashville Predators 7-3. Gary Roberts scored twice, Martin Gelinas and Juraj Kolnik scored the other goals for the Panthers. Robert Luongo made 31 saves.

In East Rutherford, Viktor Kozlov and Brian Gionta both scored in the shoot out as the New Jersey Devils beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1.

In Montreal, Jose Theodore made 27 saves as the Canadiens beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-2.

In St Louis, Curtis Sanford made 21 saves for the shutout as the Blues beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0.
