MADINAH, 16 December 2005 — Al-Ittihad showed that they are a dominant force in the basketball court as they romped past Al-Ansar 77-60 in front of a boisterous crowd here to lift the glittering Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup for Basketball Tournament last night.
Fast paced breaks combined with some tight defense was the script written by Ansar as they led 17-16 at the end of first quarter, with Ahmed Essa, firing on all cylinders, scoring 9 of his 17 points.
Adel Mokhlis added 9 points, while Ali Maghrabi, contributed 8 points taking Ittihad past Ansar 33-31 at the break.
At the start of the third quarter, Jabar Al-Shamrani scored three 3-pointers. Adel Johani sparkled with two 3-pointers from the field. Maghrabi added 6 more in Ittihad’s tally as Ittihad led 58-45 at the end of the quarter.
Johani sank another 3-pointer and Shamrani went 2-for-3 from the 3-point range. Ittihad racked up a total of 15 3-point in a game that saw in Ittihad romp home in style.
Adel Johani was the topscorer with 23 points.
