JEDDAH, 28 December 2005 — The Jeddah Science Innovation Club, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom, will be officially inaugurated soon after this Haj season, said Ahmed Linjawy, external relations manager, Modern Products Company (MPC).
The two-story center, which covers an area of 5,000 square meters, will serve the male and female students of all Jeddah schools, he said. One of the buildings is already completed.
The project, which started two years ago, was funded by MPC at a cost of SR7 million under the supervision and management of the directorate of education, he said.
“This project is an investment to our society. It would play a great role in graduating young Saudi inventors and distinguished students,” said Linjawy. “We will equip the center as soon as we receive a report by the Jeddah education department about the needed scientific equipment.”
Saleh Al-Ghamdi, scientific activities supervisor at the Jeddah Education Department, said that they would identify talented students through the center and give them all the help and support needed for their development.
The plans include a special data bank for each distinguished student in Jeddah to monitor their development and achievements in their field of creativity. The center will be linked to all schools, and will also serve as an external lab and research center to students in 650 schools around Jeddah.
The center contains a management section, scientific workshops, laboratories, support services, training and environmental studies department.
