NEW YORK, 28 December 2005 — Michael Garnett made 36 saves to become the first Atlanta netminder to post back-to-back shutouts as the Thrashers blanked the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 on Monday.

Coming off a 1-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Monday, Garnett gave the home fans at Philips Arena a late Christmas treat while frustrating the Canadiens, who slumped to their eighth straight road defeat.

Jaroslav Modry put Atlanta 1-0 ahead with first period’s only goal and that was all the scoring the Thrashers would need, Jim Slater, Marc Savard and Ilya Kovalchuk, with his 23rd of the year, providing insurance markers.

In Buffalo, Chris Drury had a goal and a pair of assists as the Sabres rallied for five unanswered goals to claim a 6-3 comeback win over the New York Islanders.

In Sunrise, Michal Handzus was the only player to score in a shootout, earning the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 decision over the Florida Panthers.

In Toronto, Bryan McCabe and Mats Sundin each had a goal and Ed Belfour made 33 saves in helping the Maple Leafs to a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.

In Ottawa, Wade Redden scored two goals and added a pair of assists as the Senators romped to a 6-2 victory over the New York Rangers. Mike Fisher, Anton Volchenkov and Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson — both with their 23rd of the season — also contributed goals for the Senators.

In Tampa, Dan Boyle scored with 33 seconds left in overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Dave Andreychuk had a pair of goals in the win while Fredrik Modin and Tim Taylor added singles.

In Columbus, Nikolai Zherdev scored with seconds left in regulation to tie the game and Jaroslav Balastik netted the winner in overtime lifting the Blue Jackets to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks to end a six game losing streak.

In St. Louis, Mike Modano and Stu Barnes each netted a pair of goals sparking Dallas Stars to a 6-1 win over the Blues.

In Denver, Joe Sakic had a pair of goals and set up another in leading the Colorado Avalanche to a 7-4 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. Shane Doan had two goals for the Coyotes, who squandered a 3-0 first-period lead.

In Edmonton, Brian Rolston, Pascal Dupuis and Todd White each had a goal and an assist and Manny Fernandez made 27 saves as the Minnesota Wild snapped the Oilers’ five-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory.

In Vancouver, Robyn Regehr scored the game-winning goal on the power play midway through the final period and Miikka Kiprusoff made 16 saves as the Calgary Flames continued their domination over the Canucks with a 2-1 victory.

In Los Angeles, Joe Corvo, Craig Conroy, Michael Cammalleri and Sean Avery each had a goal, helping the Kings to a 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks.
