JEDDAH, 29 December 2005 — Four top teams Al-Hilal, Al-Qadiseya, Al-Hamada and Al-Shabab last night qualified for the quarterfinals of the Crown Prince Cup soccer tournament being played in various cities of the Kingdom.
At Riyadh’s Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium, Hilal were made to sweat before overcoming their gritty rivals Al-Ansar of Madinah 1-0.
A shot from Santos in the 48th minute ended the game in Hilal’s favor.
In Dammam, Al-Qadiseya handed Al-Rawda a crushing 8-0 defeat. The match was a totally one-sided affair as the surging Qadiseya outmatched their rivals in every department of the game. They will face Hilal in the quarterfinals.
In Hail, Al-Hamada of Al-Ghat caused the biggest upset when they upended one of the soccer powerhouses Al-Taie of Hail 4-3. The win signaled that there is no big name left in the competition.
The result is very similar to last year’s surprising win when Al-Watani of Tabuk eliminated Al-Ahli from the competition in the round of 16.
In Al-Rass, Al-Shabab managed to secure a 3-2 win against Al-Hazem. After 2-2, the match went to extra time, in which Shabab spared their blushes by scoring one more.
Shabab will play against Hamada next Monday in Riyadh, while Qadiseya face Hilal in Dammam.
