JEDDAH, 3 January 2006 — Teams Al-Ahli, Al-Shabab, Al-Wehda and Al-Hilal advanced to the semifinals of the Crown Prince Cup soccer tournament being played in various cities of the Kingdom.
The semifinals will be played in February.
In front of more than 30,000 drum-beating fans at Jeddah’s Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium on Sunday, Ahli defeated Ittihad 5-3 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw. Ittihad’s Al-Dokhi and Al-Muntashiri missed their penalty goal attempts, losing the shootout for Itthad.
In Makkah, Wehda defeated Nasr 1-0 Sunday night after Majed Al-Hazzani scored one in the 18th minute. A strong Wehda defense staved off Nasr for the rest of the match.
In yesterday’s match, Hilal advanced to the semifinals after winning against Qadiseya 2-0 in Dammam. Both goals were scored in the second half, one by Al-Shalhoub in the 75th minute and the other by Kamatcho in the 88th minute.
In Riyadh, Shabab found no difficulty in beating Al-Hamada 4-1 in a totally one-sided match.
Semifinals matches will start from Feb. 1. Ahli will face Shabab at home in Jeddah. The second match will take place away in Riyadh on Feb. 5. Hilal will face Wehda on Feb. 2 in Makkah and Feb. 6 in Riyadh.
