RIYADH, 7 January 2006 — Al-Nasr is making the final preparation for the quarterfinals match against Al-Wehdat of Jordan in Amman in the Arab Champions League. Nasr coach Khaled Al-Gorooni is trying to make up for his team’s performance during the Crown Prince Cup against Al-Wehda in Makkah, which ended 1-0 in favor of Wehda. The first-leg match ended 1-1 in Riyadh. Nasr will try to score an early goal in the match to advance to the semifinals.
One-Year Suspension for Hilal Administrator
RIYADH, 7 January 2006 — The head of the Youth Welfare Presidency, Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, has decided to suspend Hilal football administrator Khaled Abunayyan for indiscipline following a Crown Prince Cup match against Qadiseya. He was also fined SR3,000.
Paqueta to Announce National Team Program
RIYADH, 7 January 2006 — Marcos Paqueta, the Brazilian coach of the Saudi Arabia’s national football team, will announce on Jan. 17 the national team program in preparation for the World Cup in Germany this summer. The announcement will come at a press conference at the Radisson Hotel in Riyadh where the coach will field questions from the press.
Contract Terminated for Ahli Defender
JEDDAH, 7 January 2006 — The Al-Ahli club terminated the contract of its defender, Moroccan Yousif Rabeh. The contract was ended after both sides reached an agreement and financial settlement. The administration saw the end of the contract as the only solution since the team is not going to benefit from his services due to his injury. Rabeh expressed his sadness leaving the team, saying he does not want to cheat the team since he cannot play. He said that he would return to the team after he heals from his injuries.
