JEDDAH, 16 January 2006 — Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad notched victories against Al-Ansar and Al-Wehda respectively yesterday in the Saudi Football League.
In Riyadh, hosts Hilal had little difficulty beating the Madinah team 3-1.
Al-Ansar were the first to score when Hani Al-Ahmadi found the net in the 7th minute. Hilal were quick to equalize in the 9th minute courtesy of Omar Al-Ghamdi.
Camacho then scored for Hilal in the 75th minute before Abdullah Al-Jamman tallied the third goal in the 90th minute from a penalty kick. With the victory, Hilal padded their tally to 30 points from 13 games. Al-Ansar are last in the standings with mere 4 points.
Ittihad defeated neighbors Wehda from Makkah, 2-1 in Jeddah to tie Qadiseya on 16 points. Ittihad, however, are a notch ahead of Qadiseya in fifth due to goal difference.
On Saturday, Al-Ahli defeated Al-Nasr 3-0 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah. The match was totally dominated by Ahli who hardly missed the absence of 10 major players either due to injury or national team duties.
Ahli are third with 21 points and Nasr 10th with 10 points. Elsewhere, Al-Ittifaq defeated Al-Hazem 3-1 and Al-Abha defeated Al-Taie 2-1 in Hail. Ittifaq are eight with 12 points and Hazem ninth with 12 points.
League leaders Al-Shabab defeated Al-Qadiseya in Dammam 3-0. Shabab enjoy a table-topping 31 points. Qadiseya are fifth with 16 points. Abha are in 11th position with 8 points and Taie seventh with 13 points.
