JEDDAH, 17 January 2006 — Serbian striker Denovitch has arrived to join Al-Ahli as the new professional player on the team. Denovitch expressed his happiness at playing for the first time in Saudi Arabia. He said that he is very confident his contribution will benefit his new team. Ahli’s coach, also a Serbian, recommended Denovitch and he will join the training today.
Al-Massad Out of the National Team
RIYADH — The Saudi national soccer team coach Marcos Paqueta excluded Ahli midfielder Mohammad Al-Massad from the team camp due to health reasons. A medical examination revealed that the player is badly fatigued and needs a lot of rest.
Nasr Coach Faces the Sack
RIYADH — The Al-Nasr management is seriously considering to terminate the contract of Saudi coach Khaled Al-Gorooni. The decision came after the team’s poor performance against Ahli in Jeddah which led to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat. The management said they will also punish the players responsible for the unflattering result.
Ahli Win Friendly
JEDDAH — Al-Ahli volleyball team won their second friendly match against Al-Shurta of Egypt 3-0. Ahli are currently in a training camp in Egypt in preparation for the Arab Volleyball Championship, which will start in Damascus next Friday.
