JUBAIL, 19 January 2006 — The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has finished final preparations to receive 1,400 scouts representing more than 75 countries who will participate in an international scouts camp here next month. Mohammad Al-Juwaisser, general manager of the commission in Jubail, said that the main idea is to activate the role of scouts to spread peace and place solutions to the challenges that face youth and for people to get familiar with the Saudi culture. He said that this is the first time the commission holds such a camp. The event will last for 10 days and will include sport, cultural and entertainment activities.
Loan to Eritrea for Fighting Locusts
RIYADH, 19 January 2006 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has approved $300,000 loan to Eritrea to fight locust infestation. The Saudi Embassy in Asmara will hand in the check to the Eritrea Agriculture Ministry.
Seven New Cases of Domestic Violence
JEDDAH, 19 January 2006 — The social protection department in Jeddah received seven cases of domestic violence since it opened last month, Al-Madinah newspaper reported. The department is sheltering victims for up to 1,20 days and will follow up the cases. It also provides them with help from government and non-government departments. Fatima Saleh, manager of the social protection department, said most of the victims are women and children. She said two of the seven cases received by the department are from children under the age of 10.
Campaign Against Car Thieves
TABUK, 19 January 2006 — Police in Tabuk launched a campaign against car thieves in the city. Several suspects have already been arrested, Al-Jazirah newspaper said. Among the detained are two Saudis suspected of armed robbery. They fled the scene of the crime in a stolen car. Police surrounded the area and managed to arrest the suspects in less than 15 minutes.
