Itanium Solutions Launches Catalog

The Itanium Solutions Alliance, formed by leading enterprise and technical solutions providers Bull, Fujitsu, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Hitachi, HP, Intel, NEC, SGI and Unisys, has announced the availability of the Itanium Solutions Catalog. The Solutions Catalog provides the first comprehensive, public listing of currently-available applications and solutions supported on Itanium architecture.

The Catalog, available at https://www.itaniumsolutionsalliance.org/kshowcase/view, is free to all users and serves as a one-stop resource of Itanium applications. All enterprise and high-performance solution vendors and organizations interested in extending the visibility of their applications can request inclusion in the Itanium Solutions Catalog. Vendors can post their applications through the Solutions Catalog application tool on the alliance website.

“The Itanium Solutions Catalog provides a central repository of information on applications ported from a variety of sources and will include applications ported through other alliance programs such as Developer Days and the Itanium Solutions Center Network,” said Jens-Peter Seick, vice president enterprise server business, Fujitsu Siemens Computers and member of the alliance executive board. “Historically, information on Itanium solutions has been fragmented across multiple vendor sites and resources. The alliance-sponsored catalog allows end-users, specifically IT managers, to easily access and research Itanium availability and options for deployment.”

List of US’ 25 ‘Most Connected Campuses’

The results are in for the third annual “Most Connected Campuses” list, which features the results of a Princeton Review survey to find the 25 colleges and universities in the United States offering the most cutting-edge technology.

To identify the schools on the list, The Princeton Review collected responses to a survey on campus technology from colleges in its college guidebook, “The Best 361 Colleges.” Criteria included the breadth of the computer science curriculum; the sophistication of campus technology, including streaming media of classes and extracurricular offerings; availability of school-owned digital cameras and equipment for student use; wireless Internet access on campus; and support for handheld computing.

“The schools on our list have demonstrated leadership in preparing and supporting students for life in the digital age. Students who understand the value of technology to both their career prospects and overall quality of life will want to pay special attention the schools on our list,” commented Rob Franek, VP and publisher, The Princeton Review.

Intel Promotes New Brand Identity

Intel Corporation unveiled a new brand identity that signifies the company’s evolution to a market-driving platform solutions company. The key technologies behind Intel’s platform focus include the microprocessor, chipset and software that together enhance system performance and improve the overall user experience.

The new brand identity involves changes to the widely recognized Intel Inside logo that was created in 1991 and the original Intel “dropped-e” logo, which was created by Silicon Valley pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore 37 years ago as they were forming their new “integrated electronics” company. Intel’s new logo combines the essence of both of these powerful symbols, building on Intel’s rich heritage, yet also signaling the new direction the company is headed today. It also includes a new tagline: “Intel. Leap ahead.”

Intel has been driving a fundamental shift in its approach to the market that began with the development of the Intel Centrino mobile technology platform. The company reorganized itself around the platform model last year and is now focused on four key market segment opportunities: Mobile, digital home, enterprise and health. The company has just announced a new platform for the digital home — Intel Viiv technology.

The new branding system simplifies and unifies the look and feel across Intel products and platforms in an effort to better communicate important characteristics and value to consumers. The system includes new logos for Intel Viiv technology and Intel Centrino mobile technology, and re-designed logos for individual processors, chipsets, motherboards and other Intel technologies. Each product logo also incorporates the new Intel logo.

AskMeNow Service Expands to India

AskMeNow, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ocean West Holding Corporation, has signed an agreement with Cornershop Entertainment, the wireless media arm of EsselGroup, one of the largest media conglomerates in India, that will bring its popular AskMeNow service to the world’s fastest-growing mobile market.

India has nearly 53 million GSM-standard and 14 million CDMA-standard phone users with an expected growth forecast of 200 million subscribers by 2008, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority.

As manager of one of India’s largest volume short-code, Cornershop Entertainment has relationships with every major wireless service provider throughout India and will benefit from the increased text messaging generated by AskMeNow’s service.

Chirag Shah, head of mobility for the EsselGroup, explained, “The popular AskMeNow service enables our customers to ask virtually any question and receive an SMS answer on their phones in moments. The mobile marketplace in India is growing rapidly and we are proud to offer such a unique service to the increasing number of mobile users.”

AskMeNow is the latest in a group of American technology companies to invest or expand into India. AskMeNow currently owns and operates a research facility in the Philippines and expects to extend the offering of their products and services into other countries in the future.
