Despite their social differences, Saudis share similar expectations for 2006. They wish to see economic improvement as higher oil prices bring the Kingdom extra revenue. Saudis are also very optimistic about Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’s era, in hopes that it will ease social and economic burdens.
Some of these hopes aren’t new for 2006, but rather a cumulating process that is a product of recent events.
We all wish to see an improvement in the educational system, especially in regards to teaching English as a second language at an elementary level. People that opposed teaching English in the past have helped bring our hopes down for empowering women in the workplace, especially women who could work as English teachers of others who could subsequently improve their job prospects.
We also hope to see an improvement in the balance between qualified graduating students and the number of jobs available to them. We hope to see a reduction in unemployment.
In the health sector, we hope to see the government crack down on medical negligence. We hope to see better verification of health care providers.
What we wish to see for 2006 is an end to the terrorism issue, too. At an international level we hope for more peace for Palestinians. We hope for more peace in Iraq and an end to Osama Bin Laden. These are some of the things we hope for throughout the course of 2006.
