JEDDAH, 1 February 2006 — The first FIA-sanctioned motorsport event in the Kingdom with full support from Toyota-ALJ Co. Ltd. will be staged during the weekend.
The two-day Hail Rally, organized by Saudi Automobile Club in cooperation with the office of the governor of Hail region Prince Saud ibn Abdul Mohsen, roars off on Thursday with a 3-kilometer super special stage. The second day will consists of two 225-km special stage in the Nafoud desert area.
Speaking at a press conference Sunday night, ALJ General Marketing Manager Adnan Al-Qahtani said they are grateful to Prince Saud for his encouragement and support of the groundbreaking rally event in Hail.
“I hope that other regions follow the example set by Hail in helping promote motorsport in the Kingdom,” said Al-Qahtani.
Former Saudi rally ace and now pitchman for ALJ, Abdullah Bakhashab, said the event for 4X4 off-road vehicles will likely be included in the Middle East Rally Championship rounds depending on its rate of success.
All participants driving a Toyota vehicle will enjoy financial support from ALJ. They are advised to contact Abdullah Bakhashab Est. at 6520360. No less than 20 Toyota cars are expected to enter the rally which aims to spur the development of motorsport in the Kingdom.
ALJ has long been associated with motorsport in Saudi Arabia. The company has sponsored Bakhashab since 1997 up to the time he quit the ME rally scene middle of 2003.
