JEDDAH, 10 February 2006 — Medical forensics experts have asked the Interior Ministry to prohibit a foreign doctor in Jeddah from leaving the country over a negligence case, the Okaz daily reported. A committee of forensics experts met on Tuesday to looks into a case of a doctor who refused to report a man who had beaten his wife unconscious six months ago. The woman died from the injuries after the doctor made a house call, prescribed medicine, and failed to report the incident to authorities. The woman died from the injuries. The man later confessed to the crime, and authorities asked medical experts to investigate the allegations of negligence on the part of the doctor. The doctor’s Asian nurse, who has been suspected of collaborating with the doctor in covering up the incident, has already fled the country. Another hearing is scheduled for next week, and investigators fear the doctor may flee the country.
