RIYADH, 11 February 2006 — Saudi mobile communications provider Mobily will showcase its 3G (third generation) and 3.5 technology for mobile phones at the Saudi Communications Exhibition that will be inaugurated by Communications Minister Jameel Mullah tomorrow. An estimated number of 100,000 visitors are expected during this week-long exhibition on Feb. 12-16.
“Participating for the first time, the company will showcase its products and services in full-fledged stands, designed to reflect the industry’s avant-garde spirit,” Mobily spokesman Humoud Al-Ghobaini told Arab News.
Visitors can witness the dynamic 3G demonstrations along with live transmission of some popular, free-to-air television channels.
“Mobily personnel will be available to address queries on products and services the company will soon be launching in the Saudi market,” Al-Ghobaini said.
The 3G technology brings along a revolution to the telecommunications industry. Its unique features enable callers to view each other in real time during the course of the call, identify a caller’s position using GPRS technology, and watch favorite satellite television channels.
Mobily information desks have been setup to field questions. The company will showcase its unique technology of GPRS EDGE, which connects subscribers to the Internet at speeds of more than 200 kbps. This service, which is the most recent technology available in the world, is available to all Mobily postpaid subscribers, with the added value of international roaming.
“Only eight mobile operators offer this technology in the Middle East, according to the GSM Association, and Mobily is the only Saudi mobile operator with this unique service,” Al-Ghobaini said.
Mobily will also demonstrate MMS, PTT, LBS (located based service), with maps, as well as other added value unique services.
