JEDDAH, 11 February 2006 — Officials in charge of conducting comprehensive medical tests for couples intending to marry were surprised when a 22-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman approached them. They initially refused to conduct the tests after observing the huge difference in their ages. But they had to oblige when the couple insisted, Al-Watan Arabic daily reported. The groom, who is working for the bride’s family as a driver, said the woman, who is deputy director of a secondary school in the city, impressed him. The youth had told the woman that he would meet all the marriage expenditures.
