RIYADH, 12 February 2006 — Shoura Council Chairman Saleh Bin-Humaid will leave for Jakarta tomorrow, leading a 20-member goodwill mission.
Bin-Humaid will be visiting Indonesia on an invitation from Parliament Speaker Agung Laksono.
“The four-day visit of the Shoura Council delegation will bring both parliaments closer,” Yuvil Septian, an attaché at the Indonesian Embassy, told Arab News.
In Jakarta, Bin-Humaid is to chair the Saudi-Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Society (SIPFS), which will discuss strengthening relations between the legislative and advisory bodies, Septian said.
Formed in 2005, the SIPFS is composed of 11 members from the Shoura Council and 16 members from the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (the House of Representatives). The house has 550 elected members.
Septian said the formal invitation to visit Jakarta was extended to the Shoura Council in 2003 when a parliamentary delegation from Indonesia visited Riyadh.
Besides the Indonesian legislators, the Saudi delegation is expected to meet key government officials, Septian added.
