WiMAX Forum Certification
Redline Communications has received the WiMAX Forum Certified mark for its RedMAX Subscriber Unit (SU-O). The RedMAX SU-O is the first WiMAX system based upon the Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 Broadband Interface to receive the WiMAX Forum Certified mark. With this certification, Redline offers the first complete wireless broadband system in the world to be WiMAX Forum Certified. Redline’s RedMAX Base Station (AN-100U) was one of the first three base stations to receive the WiMAX Forum Certified mark on January 19, 2006. Redline’s SU-O is an integrated customer premise device that can be easily installed by the subscriber. The unit can be used for indoor or outdoor installations in most countries, enabling broadband connections to business and residential subscribers.
Redline’s RedMAX products have been chosen by carriers in international markets for nationwide deployments and network trials. Among the first to install RedMAX for a nationwide network is Hrvatske Telekomunikacije d.d (T-HT), a Croatian telecommunications company owned by Deutsche Telecom. RedMAX is also being deployed by Integrated Telecom Company Ltd. (ITC), a licensed data service provider in Saudi Arabia, as part of the $22.2 million first phase of its regionwide broadband network.
Oracle Emphasizes E-Govt Importance
In order to create knowledge societies that drive economic growth and development, Saudi Arabia must pursue its e-governance project and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the public and private sectors in the Kingdom, stated Dr. Juan F. Rada, senior vice president, Industries, Oracle Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
At a meeting this week with Communications and Information Technology Minister Muhammad Jamil Mulla, Rada highlighted Oracle’s commitment to training and human resources development in the Kingdom. Support for Arabic software development is a key focus for Oracle and the company develops products and applications specifically to serve the needs of users across the Middle East and North Africa region.
“Saudi Arabia’s e-governance project focuses on enhancing the provision of access to government-related services and information for public use and knowledge,” Rada said. “The project also aims to enhance public services through online systems which assure affordability and accountability. By catering to the needs of both enterprises and consumers, Oracle solutions can provide decision-makers with accurate data at the right time to increase return on investment.”
In addition to his discussion with the minister, Rada also delivered a keynote speech at the CIO Summit, which is under way in Riyadh. He also took the opportunity to meet with a number of Oracle’s key customers and partners. The Saudi Arabian market is one of Oracle’s most important geographies in the Middle East and Africa region, and is a critical element of the company’s global strategy.
“The commitment to e-government strategies and projects in the Kingdom across all of the ministries clearly shows the pace of growth in Saudi Arabia today,” commented Abdul Rahman Al-Theheiban, Oracle Saudi Arabia’s managing director. “Dr. Rada’s visit is an opportunity for us to leverage Oracle’s global expertise in working with process-orientated change in the public sector and apply it to specific examples in the Kingdom, to achieve the best results for the country.”
KFUPM Offers Cost Estimating Course
Mohammed Jalaluddin, lecturer, Construction Engineering & Management Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), would like to draw attention an upcoming course of interest to local engineers.
“The course, Cost Estimating Using Timberline 7.1.2, is expected to be of great interest to cost engineers in the private and government sectors,” said course coordinator Jalaluddin. “Participants who will benefit from this course will be those individuals involved in cost estimation, such as architects, architectural engineers, cost estimators, project managers, as well as owners, contractors, educators, municipal officials and administrators.”
This course provides a review of fundamentals in cost aspects of construction, review of types of estimates, quantity take-off methods, estimating references, review of labor and equipment production rates, overhead and profits. Timberline is a computerized comprehensive cost estimating software package for building estimates for construction projects. The course focuses on creating new estimates using Timberline software, takeoff methods (quick, item and assembly), modifying estimates, graphical reporting and database development. The course will teach attendees how to set up resources, crews, labor and equipment rate tables, WBS codes, WBS libraries and estimate adjustments.
The course is scheduled for March 11-15, 2006, 8 a.m.-4 p.m on the KFUPM campus. Participants in the course should have an working knowledge of English and computer skills are essential. Limited to 15 seats. For further information, contact [email protected].
