JEDDAH, 14 February 2006 — The Saudi national team, currently in training camp in Jeddah, play a friendly match against the Syrian team today at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here. The match is in preparation for the Asian Cup 2007 Group A qualifying match against Yemen on Feb. 22. Bracketed in the same group are Japan and India. The match was supposed to be played tomorrow but rescheduled for today.

Handicapped Athletes Enter Training Camp

RIYADH, 14 February 2006 — The General Presidency of Youth Welfare Chairman Prince Sultan ibn Fahd has approved the list of special Saudi handicapped team to enter training camp in Riyadh. The training camp is in preparation for the special Gulf tournament to be held in UAE from March 2-9.

Ahli Club Investigate 2 Players

JEDDAH, 14 February 2006 — The Al-Ahli club management is currently investigating two of their players in connection with the match Ahli lost 1-0 against Al-Ittifaq in Jeddah last Saturday. The two Ali Al-Abdali and Saleh Al-Muhammadi nearly came to blows following a verbal tussle had not other players separate them in time. It is expected that the administration would fine the erring pair.

Ittifaq Reward Players

DAMMAM, 14 February 2006 – Al-Ittifaq club management distributed SR1,000 to all players after they won the match against Ahli 1-0 in the Saudi soccer league 1-0 last Saturday in Jeddah. The win moved Ittifaq up to fourth place with 22 points. The reward is to encourage the players to do their best for a possible spot in the final four of the competition.
