JEDDAH, 15 February 2006 — Saudi Arabia drew their international friendly match against Syria 1-1 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here. Yasir Al-Kahtani scored the game’s first goal in the 40th minute from a nice pass by Nawaf Al-Tumyat. The equalizer came in the 45th minute from an own goal by Saudi defender Hamad Al-Muntashri. The match is in preparation for the Asian cup qualification matches.
Sports Activities Put Off
RIYADH — The General Presidency of Youth Welfare Chairman Prince Sultan ibn Fahd has ordered suspension of all sports activities in the Kingdom to give way to the Janadriya cultural event which opens today.
SHF Team Withdraw
RIYADH — The Saudi Handball Federation has withdrawn participation of the national team at the Asian qualifying matches, which are taking place in Bangkok. No reason was given for the withdrawal in the letter sent by the SHF to the Asian Handball Federation.
Wehda Chief Airs Side
MAKKAH — Al-Wehda club President Jamal Tunisi held a press conference on Monday to counter criticisms after Wehda’s exit from the Crown Prince Cup soccer competition against Al-Hilal. He defended his decision to sell a number of Wehda players to local teams for the rest of the season. He challenged critics to nail him if the players did not return next year to the team. Fans and club members launched attacks against Tunisi for selling three players to Hilal and Al-Ittihad.
