RIYADH, 18 February 2006 — Riyadh School for Filipinos and Nafethat Al-Mostaqbal beat their semifinal opponents to arrange a championship showdown in the first International Schools Basketball Tournament organized by the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh region in cooperation with the General Presidency of Youth Welfare here.
Casamura led the Filipinos, represented by IPSR, to victory against French School, who appeared to be out of sorts. The French also seemed to be affected by the constant complaining against the referees’ calls by their player Patrick.
IPSR team manager Ibrahim Al-Dosari extended his thanks to the organizers for the opportunity to participate in the tournament. He said playing against an undefeated team since the start of the tourney was not an easy task adding good teamwork carried the team to victory.
Nafethat Al-Mostaqbal School needed overtime to beat King Khalid School (KKS). Nafethat were led by key players Abdurahman Al-Isa, Ashraf Ali Tahkim, Saud Abdulaziz and Khalid Saleh Al-Bishr. Sixteen selected teams representing various international schools entered the three months long championship.
Abdlelah Al-Mouina of the organizing committee said that the event is aimed at promoting worthwhile sports activities for the international schools in Riyadh while gaining access to the various sports facilities in the Kingdom.
The tournament is supervised by the chief of the foreign education of the Directorate of Education in Riyadh region Barrak Bin Saad Al-Barrak. The referees sent by the Saudi Basketball Federation to officiate the games were Saud Abdulaziz Al-Zuwayed, Badr Bin Abdulrahman Al-Mutawwa, Abdulelah Abdurahman Al-Shuail, Abdullah Al-Ajalan, Khalid
Saleh Al-Besher, Ahmed Yahia Kariri, and Muhammad Ahmed Al-Naghi.
Barrak Bin Saad Al-Barrak thanked the federation for sharing their experience and technical support for the tournament. He also cited the valuable help of the GPYW Sport Hall management.
