DOHA, 19 February 2006 — The Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) will organize the Sports Science Congress dubbed as “Sports Science in the 21st Century” to discuss sports science, doping control and women in sport.
The congress will be held Sept. 15-17 at the Doha Sheraton Hotel and will bring together sports scientists, researchers, physicians, anti-doping experts, scholars and major event planners to share their knowledge, experience and expertise.
Speakers and their presentations will cover the treatment of athletes to planning of major sporting events, such as the Doha 2006 Games. The congress will include workshops, abstract presentations, poster presentations and an exhibition.
“The aim of this congress is to create a multi-disciplinary forum for doctors, scientists and interest groups from all fields of sport sciences,” said Yousef Mohamed Al-Othman, deputy director general, operations at DAGOC. “The congress will provide a state-of-the-art view of applied and clinical sciences relating to sport, exercise and health. Additionally, aspects of education and numerous other fields which greatly impact the future of sport science in the Middle East will also be highlighted.”
Speakers at the congress include Robert Pedowitz (USA), Jiri Dvorak (Czech Republic), Nichola Vance (Australia), Mohammed Ali (Qatar) and Abdulwahab Al-Musleh (Qatar) among others.
Delegates will also be given a guided tour of some of the games venues as well as the sights and attractions of the Doha 2006 host city.
