The young man wanted to get married and so he discusses his wishes with his mother. She naturally helped him to find a bride. Unfortunately, the young man was already married — to repaying a number of debts and creditors.
For a month, the newlyweds were happy. Two months went by and the couple realized that as soon as the husband’s salary was deposited in the bank, it was eaten up by debt repayment.
A mere pittance was left over for the couple to live on. Happiness faded as quickly as the monthly paycheck and was replaced by damaged masculine pride resulting in anger and violence directed at the wife.
Then the pregnancy came. The husband’s anger at his inability to handle life’s responsibilities was worsened by the fear of becoming a father under such circumstances. The pleasure a father-to-be should feel was diminished by the shadow of the unknown and uncertainty. The situation got steadily worse and finally, when the young man could no longer pay his rent, the couple was forced to flee into the night.
Depression and misery increase. Excuses are made for his depression and the circumstances that he alone is responsible for creating. His mother thinks he is the victim of the evil eye.
He no longer wants his wife and gets angry and frustrated because of her pregnancy. His mother naturally sides with her son, exacerbating her daughter-in-law’s misery and she decides to leave for the calm refuge of her parents’ house. The marriage, as we can guess, soon ends in divorce.
This story should serve as an example of what many newlyweds endure. They should realize that starting a new life is difficult under the best of circumstances and it should never be done under a weight of loans and pressing financial obligations.
