RIYADH, 2 March 2006 — Four Saudi scientists, two of them women, have been awarded the Almarai Award for Scientific Innovation 2006.
Almarai Company Ltd., Saudi Arabia’s leading dairy and food company, is the sponsor of the award, which is approved by the Council of Ministers and the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).
“The winners will share among themselves a total prize money of SR360,000,” said Saleh Al-Athel, the head of the KACST and president of the prize panel.
Prince Sultan ibn Mohammed S. Al-Kabir, Almarai’s chairman and vice-president of the panel, announced the winners: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals professor Salahuddin Al-Kabbaz and King Saud University professor Abdullah Abdulrahman Al-Sadoun in the men’s category; and Abeer Mohammed Al-Dosari and Wafa Mohammed Al-Maghrabi, who are working in a college in Dammam, in the women’s category.
The award has a panel composed of senior members from KACST and Almarai Co., which reviewed a total of 73 entries from Saudi scientists and researchers.
The awards will be presented later this year in a function to be organized in Qassim. The aim of the award is to promote scientific research in Saudi Arabia, said Prince Sultan.
KACST vice presidents Prince Turki ibn Saud and Abdullah Al-Rasheed, Fahad S. Al-Sultan, secretary-general of the Council of Saudi Chambers, and Mustafa Al-Idrisi were present at the press briefing.
