RIYADH, 6 March 2006 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and French President Jacques Chirac yesterday inaugurated the exhibit called “The Wonders of Islamic Arts” at Riyadh’s National Museum.
They cut the traditional ribbon to mark the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition, organized jointly by the Supreme Commission for Tourism and France’s Louvre Museum, has on display masterpieces of Islamic art representing different Islamic eras and cultures.
King Abdullah stressed the importance of the exhibition in promoting cultural understanding between the two countries.
The French president was taken around the museum by Prince Sultan ibn Salman, the SCT secretary-general, and French delegates.
Prince Sultan presented, on behalf of Prince Naif, the minister of the interior and chairman of the SCT’s board of directors, souvenirs to King Abdullah and the French president.
Earlier in the day, the French president and his wife Bernadette paid a visit to the ancient city of Dirriyah. They went around the ancient sites and landmarks in the city.
