RIYADH, 12 March 2006 — A surgical operation to separate the Iraqi twins — Fatima and Zahra — has been postponed because of a recent deterioration in their health.
Medical tests to determine whether the twins will be able to undergo surgery at the National Guard’s King Abdul Aziz Medical City have not been completed. Fatima and Zahra were brought to Riyadh in February by air ambulance on instructions from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah described the twins’ current status as “disturbing.” He said that when they arrived at the hospital they had a urinary infection which later spread to their circulatory systems and required them to be in the intensive care unit (ICU).
