MANAMA, 14 March 2006 — The Bahrain Institute of Banking & Finance in association with Arab News and the Manama-based Ithmaar Bank will hold a training program for Arab journalists specializing in economic and commercial affairs here today.
Ithmaar Bank has invited about 20 journalists from leading newspapers in Saudi Arabia and a similar number of journalists from Bahrain to attend the program.
The Saudi journalists have already arrived here for the course. Proposed by Khaled Almaeena, editor in chief of Arab News, the program received full support from Khalid Abdulla-Janahi, chairman of Ithmaar Bank’s board of directors.
In a press statement on the occasion, Khalil Nouruddin, director of the institute, said the course, which is in Arabic, would enhance the skills and knowledge of journalists specializing in economic and commercial affairs. He said the one-day training program, which is first of its kind organized by the institute, includes reporting, writing, editing and analytical thinking on complex economic issues.
In a similar statement, Almaeena said the participation of Saudi journalists alongside their Bahraini counterparts would not only promote the historic relations between the two countries but also encourage joint efforts to strengthen their capabilities in journalism.
Journalists attending the program would receive firsthand information about economic and financial matters such as balance sheet, assets, dividends, debt financing, financial risk, bankruptcy, stock market listing requirements, factors affecting the index, initial public offering, legal rights and privileges of stockholders and factors affecting stock value.
