MANAMA, 15 March 2006 — More than 40 journalists, including some 20 Saudis, participated in a one-day business-training course here yesterday. The course aimed to familiarize participants with the basics of today's business world.
Three intensive sessions covering areas in business and investment were held for participants who included Bahrainis representing local and regional press, notably from Qatar and UAE, at the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF).
The first of its kind course is a joint effort of Arab News and Ithmaar Bank to raise the standards of business coverage in the region by offering journalistic skills through training.
"Joint efforts between Saudi and Bahraini journalists will help improve the standard of journalism," said Arab News Editor in Chief Khaled Almaeena.
Almaeena, who headed the Saudi delegation of journalists, said exchange of ideas and experiences between Bahraini journalists and their Saudi counterparts would reflect positively on the future of journalism.
"The training course was the first of its kind organized here. We conducted it in Arabic to ensure that journalists make the best use of the opportunity," BIBF Director Khalil Nooruddin said.
"The sessions focused on developing the background of journalists on writing and understanding business reports in addition to developing their business analytical skills," he added.
Almaeena initiated the efforts to hold this first of its kind course for journalists here in cooperation with Ithmaar Chairman Khalid Abdulla-Janahi.
