On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of our independence and national day, I extend my heartfelt felicitations to all our countrymen, home and abroad. On this auspicious day, the entire nation pays tribute to the valiant freedom fighters and to those countless martyrs who laid down their lives for a free and independent Bangladesh.
Independence is our glorious achievement. As we celebrate this solemn and momentous day, we recall the immense contribution of the late President Ziaur Rahman for his bold declaration of war of independence. His courageous declaration culminated in the creation of independent and sovereign Bangladesh.
The present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, has undertaken a series of development programs translating the spirit of the liberation war into economic emancipation of the people. Concerned efforts irrespective of party affiliations and national unity are essential prerequisites for establishing a happy, prosperous and self-reliant Bangladesh.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our missions abroad are engaged in projecting the image of Bangladesh and promoting our national interest. Our foreign policy continues to promote and strengthen bilateral relations with all the countries of the world as well. Bangladesh seeks to play a proactive and contributory role in different regional and international fora with pragmatic ideas and initiatives.
I fondly recall the role of Bangladesh expatriates living abroad for their immense contribution in different spheres of national upliftment. I particularly recall the remittances sent by Bangladeshis living abroad to meet our valuable foreign exchange needs. Bangladeshi expatriates are our goodwill ambassadors abroad, who I am sure, will play their role in protecting and projecting our national image abroad.
On this auspicious occasion, I call upon all countrymen and Bangladeshis living abroad to come forward and play their due role in nation-building activities imbued with the spirit of the independence and national day.
Allah Hafez,
Bangladesh Zindabad.
M. Morshed Khan, MP
Foreign Minister
