RIYADH, 28 March 2006 — Pakistan Writers’ Club and Pakistan Awami Forum, two of the largest Riyadh-based community organizations, celebrated Pakistan’s National Day at the Saudi German Hospital auditorium here last week.
Pakistan’s Ambassador Adm. (retd) Shahid Karimullah was the chief guest. It was attended by a number of other embassy officials including Farrukh Farid, deputy head of the mission, Manzar Hafiz Mian, community welfare counselor, and Waqar Ahmed, community welfare attaché.
Other guests included Abdul Qadeer Mirza, Pakistani Banker, Choudhry Zafar, Jeddah-based businessman, and Dr. Zahoor-ul Hasan.
Awami Forum President Mohammad Akram Choudhry spoke about the forum’s activities.
The ambassador said the event organized by the two organizations had enabled him to interact with the community.
Other speakers were Professor Yusuf Ghouri, Dr. Asif Qureshi, Javed Iqbal, Salim School Lala, Faiz Al-Najdi, and Dr. Saad Akhtar Baloch.
Qudsia Mirza, social worker and president of Saudi-Pak Women Association also spoke. Schoolgirls presented a tableau. Ashiq Hussain and Dr. Shahid conducted the program.
The ambassador gave away awards and shields to Dr. Saleh Al-Tuwaijry, chairman, Saudi Red Crescent Society (SRCS), and Dr. Zein El Abedin, manager Riyadh warehouse of SRCS, in recognition of their cooperation in getting SR3.8 million relief goods airlifted to Pakistan for the Oct. 8 earthquake victims in Pakistan.
